Businesses
on the New Road
by

The
new road from Highway 8 to Cholla Bay has been paved only a few months, but
already traffic is substantial, and businesses are thriving there. We were
driving that way recently when we noticed a sign that said Cosmos 2. It looked
familiar, so we stopped and went in.
Sure
enough, it was a second branch of the Cosmos 2000 pharmacy. We were welcomed
cordially by Angela Gonzalez, an attractive young woman who works there. She
invited us to look around, and we could see that this shop, though smaller
than the main one on Blvd. Juarez, is well-stocked with medicines, perfumes,
gifts, jewelry, watches, and toys. Angela told
us that the manager of the shop is Pedro's daughter. Pedro is the owner
and pharmacist at the other store.
The
hours of operation are 9-9 on weekdays and 9-4 on Sunday. For those who live
or are visiting out in Cholla Bay, it's good to know that a new pharmacy is
located right on their way.
The
pharmacy is actually the front half of a building owned by Chato Dúran, the
owner of Maderera de Peņasco. The rear half is a second branch of that store.
So here were two of our favorite clients and friends in the same place.
We
met Enrique Mejia, the manager of the branch store. He told us that it has
been there for about two years, and we remembered having seen it before. There's
a good selection of tools, paint, hardware, and plumbing pipes inside, and
out in the yard cement, wire, pipes, wood, tile, and brick. Enrique told us
that the store doesn't have as many supplies as the main branch, but if anyone
needs anything, they can order it from him, and he will get it right away.
As
we drove on down the road we noticed other businesses--Atlas Refaccionaria,
another client of ours, Kino Licores, Panchito's video and soft drinks, and
many new houses, apartments, and store buildings. It looks as if the road
to Cholla Bay may soon be blacktop all the way. It appears to be in the process
of being reinforced with calilche from the Sandy Beach office the rest of
the way.
Change and growth--good for tourism and good for business.
