Extending the Family
We recently spoke to an American acquaintance who was making his first trip to Puerto Peñasco. He could not have been more nervous if he had being departing for a 20-year trip to outer space. He was afraid to go alone so persuaded a friend to go with him. He repeatedly asked if the roads were safe. He worried about how much insurance to buy and where to buy it. He was apprehensive about finding a hotel.

Both Sides of Baja
We took an interesting trip last month wherein we saw both sides of the Baja California peninsula. We had business in Ensenada, and we wanted to visit a large new housing development in San Felipe, so we planned to drive across the peninsula from Ensenada and see a bit of the country.

New Neighbors in the Old Port
New Neighbors in the Old Port

Now that we have our office open in the Old Port, we have started to get to know our neighbors there.
Our immediate next-door neighbor is someone we have known for many years--Dr. Luis Vazquez. Dr. Vazquez is a delightful character--a courtly and cosmopolitan gentleman whose home and waiting room are a veritable museum of art.

Morphing in Two Languages
As a person interested in language, I always notice similarities and differences between Spanish and English as I go back and forth between Mexico and the U.S.
Many words are identical in written form and meaning in both languages, even though they may be pronounced differently. Some of these we have borrowed from each other; others came from the same Latin root. Here are a few:
